Syeka

Syekas are a race of humanoid snow owls, native to the northern regions of Yavmir. Once a second class resident of Yavmir, the collapse of the Radiant Empire and the onset of the Endless Winter have seen their fringe society develop into a powerful faction in the new world. Often derided as opportunistic scavengers, Syekas are resourceful and keenly intelligent; they should not be underestimated.

Syeka Racial Traits

+2 Dexterity, +2 Wisdom, -2 Charisma: Syekas are quick and resourceful, but practice strange customs and are regarded as outsiders among the cities of man.

Small: Syekas are Small creatures and gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty to their CMB and CMD, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks.

Slow Speed: Syekas move awkwardly on their feet, hopping around much like a normal bird does. They have a base speed of 20 feet.

Darkvision: Syekas can see in the dark up to 60 feet.

Climb: Syekas characters have a climb speed of 20 feet, and gain the +8 racial bonus on Climb checks that a climb speed normally grants.

Little Beak: Syekas have sharp needle-like beaks, granting them a bite attack. This is a primary natural attacks that deals 1d2 points of piercing damage.

Glide: Although lacking true wings, Syekas can use their feathered arms and legs to glide. Syeka characters take no damage from falling (as if subject to a constant non-magical feather fall spell). While in midair, they can move up to 5 feet in any horizontal direction for every 1 foot they fall, at a speed of 60 feet per round. A Syeka cannot gain height with this ability; it merely coasts in other directions as it falls. However, if subjected to a strong wind or any other effect that would cause a creature with gliding wings to rise, it can take advantage of the updraft to increase the distance it can glide.

Swarming: Syekas are used to living and fighting communally with one another in their treetop city of Brindlenest. Up to two Syekas can share the same square at the same time. If they are occupying the same square and attack the same foe, they are considered to be flanking that foe as if they were in two opposite squares.

Scavenger: Syeka characters gain a +2 racial bonus on Appraise and Perception checks to find hidden objects (including traps and secret doors), determine whether food is spoiled, or identify a potion by taste.

Camouflage: Due to their white and black plumage, Syeka are nearly invisible when shrouded by snowy foliage. They gain a +4 bonus on stealth checks in forest terrain.

Suspicious: Syeka characters gain a +2 racial bonus on Sense Motive checks.

Languages: Syekas begin play speaking Skrip. Syekas with a high Intelligence score can additionally learn Common, Vaettir, and Palmspeak.
